Skogsøya photos ~ Up in the mountains

Your guide: Johan I. Borgos

The highest mountain on Skogsøya - Stikollen - reaches 708 m (2323 feet) above sea level. The view is magnificent, but I'm sorry, I haven't got any slides to prove it.

When you've been up in the mountains with your camera, you typically come back with three kind of photos - showing other mountains, the view, or plants and animals you came across. In this little collection you'll find mountains and panoramas.

v-pil.gif - 958 Bytes To the left you can see the top of Stikollen. Between me and its mountain-side there is a deep valley, carved out by a local glacier some ten thousand years ago.

Turning around and facing east we can see a little valley with a small lake (yes, you can get trout there) and a pass behind it. h-pil.gif - 958 Bytes

v-pil.gif - 958 Bytes We jump to the pass (and to summer). On the other side a long valley cuts deep into the island, surrounded by steep mountain-sides.

Here is the lower part of the valley, showing a little lake where you may catch the trouts on a lucky day in the right weather. h-pil.gif - 958 Bytes

v-pil.gif - 958 Bytes Looking north from a top we see the abandoned place Nordsand below. The mountain range in the background is situated on Langøya.

To the west we literally look down at Tinden, a mountain on Tindsøya. This almost perfect pyramid shows up on many of my slides. h-pil.gif - 958 Bytes

v-pil.gif - 958 Bytes Jumping to a mountain on the eastern side of the island we get a look at the town Myre on Langøya. The long mountain range in the background is Andøya.

Turning a little to the right other mountains on Langøya come into view, and also an archipelago of smaller islands. h-pil.gif - 958 Bytes

v-pil.gif - 958 Bytes Back to where we started and ready for panorama shots. This one shows the harbour and Breistrand with big white buildings. A little lake in the foreground.

Turning to the right, and here we have Tunstad. Beyond the strip of sea you can see the foot of the great mountain Saltberget. h-pil.gif - 958 Bytes

v-pil.gif - 958 Bytes Still turning right. To the left houses on Tunstad, to the right part of Hjellsand. Small lakes sleep quiet behind the line of houses near the sea.

And another right turn. In the background Langøya (Long Island!), Dyrøya, Børøya and part of Tindsøya. Below us is Hjellsand, where I grew up. Let's go down there for a cup of coffee! h-pil.gif - 958 Bytes
